Can Prep Home Cooked Meals Outside Of Home Reporting Dana Tyler co-anchor CBS 2 News at 6PM WCBS News TV Three busy moms cooked up an idea and turned their love of food into a business. It all started on a commuter train. Partners Mary Meade Smith, Fran Valle and Sharon Grey run DinnerSmith, a meal prep studio in Maplewood, New Jersey. They plan and prepare meals so other women or men don't have to. "We were commuting. We were moms. We would talk about food every single day. What's for dinner? What did you make? How did you make that?" Smith said. "DinnerSmith is a place where people can come and prep dinners, prepare whole dinners out of whole foods with our recipes. Recipes that have been researched, we know this is going to work," Smith said. Customers select a meal from their website and DinnerSmith takes it from there. Each ingredient is ready to be assembled in disposable bags or pans to make and take away. The meals can be popped in the oven that night or saved in the freezer for later. And DinnerSmith does all the clean up. Laura Houseley is a stay at home mom with two children. She says DinnerSmith saves her at least five hours a week. "It makes my life easier because I don't really have to think about what I'm doing. It's all written out for me and the supplies are here." Realtor Pam Webb dashed in to make a quick dinner. "In between everything I can run over. I previewed homes this morning, have client appointments after this, but I know now that my family has been fed." "The biggest advantage for our customer is they get their life back. Making dinner every night for a family and shopping is about 15 hours a week. That's a part time job," Smith said. |
